Friends don’t let friends lose their spot

I may have taken a hiatus from blogging, but crafternooning … I think not. Around Christmastime, I had a few vacation days to spare and thus, I began my bookmark-making marathon. Homemade bookmarks were both fun to make and served as thoughtful gifts for friends and family. In creating these bookmarks, I was able to keep the recipient in mind and pick out patterns and colors that I thought fit their personality and the season. Below are a few examples of the bookmarks that resulted from my Christmas crafting frenzy:

Scrapbook Paper Bookmarks

All you need for these fun, customizable bookmarks are the materials below. Then, you can take it from there!

Supplies:

1. Scrapbook paper of any kind
2. Glitter pen/glue
3. Ribbon (preferably the kind with wire in it, so that it’s easy to poke through the hole at the top)
4. Hole punch or push pin (I just used a push pin since I didn’t have a hole punch)
5. Glue

Recommended Tunes:

Deep Sea Diver or Hospitality Pandora Stations

Homemade & from the Heart: Father’s Day Edition

It’s a little hard to find masculine scrapbook paper – especially in my stash. I found a blue striped pattern but didn’t have any other fun craft decorations to spruce it up. I decided to go back to my roots – back to third grade art class when we would weave together strips of construction paper.

All I used were scissors, glue and a plain blank thank you card (see my Mother’s Day card tutorial).

It came great – the weaving gave it just enough texture and even though I used scrapbook paper, my dad’s masculinity was kept in tact! (Click here for more info on dad.)

Homemade & From the Heart

It’s not a secret that I love scrapbook paper but don’t have enough patience for scrapbooking. I refuse to be deprived of beautiful prints and designs and therefore apply it in other ways (i.e. storage boxes!).

Homemade cards are easy to make, cheaper than real cards and much easier to personalize.

*They’re especially cheaper if you get materials in bulk for making homemade cards throughout the year with. Buy the following materials for ongoing use:

  • A pack of cheap blank thank you notes like these that you can get 10 for $3.99 (the price of one hallmark card)
  • Scrapbook paper value packs that hold hundreds of different designs. A friend and I bought a value pack and split up the papers, which made it even cheaper.
  • Fun, paper shapes. My favorites are the large confetti collections in the wedding isle of Michael’s.

All you need other than that is glue and paint pens or markers for added decoration. I’d suggest writing your message inside the card first so that you don’t have to wait for the glue to dry. Simply find the scrapbook paper most relevant to the occasion and the recipient’s personality. Cut then glue it onto the front of the blank thank you card. Finally, decorate with your extra materials as you like.

Here’s the card I created for my mom for Mother’s Day:

An Ad Sure To Absorb Attention

It’s stuff like this that made me study and pursue communications, folks! Smart, creative, viral concepts like this ad for a SPONGE:

3M Scotch-Brite – “Wash Your Bill”

{Found via The St. Louis Egotist}

No surprise here it’s a product of 3M – easily one of the most innovative companies out there. Always willing to take risks, 3M is a perfect example of creating a work environment conducive for innovating. More on that to come!

Ride Colorfully Kate Spade New York Vespa LX50

Today is the last day of Kate Spade NY’s #RideColorfully Pinterest contest – offering the chance to win a Kate Spade Vespa LX50 and I JUST realized it!

OBVIOUSLY I’m all over this for a number of reasons:

1. I’m obsessed with Kate Spade everything – I even used the design and color of my Kate Spade coasters to inspire the entire decor of my apartment.

2. I’m a paycheck-to-paycheck livin’ kinda girl with high standards. I’d totally use a Vespa all the time to save gas, but not just any Vespa ~ a Kate Spade New York Vespa!

3. I’m obsessed with Pinterest everything and somehow this is the first contest I’ve participated in. But then again I’m picky : P  I’ve blogged on here and on behalf of my company about Pinterest, and I’m an avid user.

So check out my #RideColorfully Pinterest board to take a look at some gorgeous destinations I could ride to on my new Vespa!
